An ancient stone colossus awakens in downtown LA and bonds with a misfit sculptor who must help it stop a rogue military AI before the city is reduced to rubble.
Synopsis
Buried for centuries beneath the La Brea Tar Pits, a 200-foot guardian carved from black granite erupts during an earthquake and imprints on struggling street artist Maya Ruiz. Together they race to decode the creature’s forgotten purpose while a rogue defense satellite mistakes it for an invading force and launches autonomous kill-drones. As downtown burns, Maya must convince the military—and the stone titan itself—that mercy, not annihilation, is the only way to survive.
The story
Maya discovers the awakening colossus and it imprints on her; the military declares Code Black and deploys experimental hunter-killers.
Maya and the creature form an uneasy alliance, dodging drones through the city while piecing together its origin as an ancient protector against sky-borne threats.
Maya convinces the colossus to spare civilians, they destroy the satellite command core in a towering finale, and the creature returns to dormancy—leaving Maya its new guardian.

INT. LA DOWNTOWN SUBWAY TUNNEL - NIGHT A subway car SCREECHES to a halt. Lights flicker. Passengers stare as the tunnel walls CRACK. Stone dust rains. A low, bone-deep RUMBLE shakes the car. Maya Ruiz, 28, sketchbook in hand, presses against the glass. Outside, a massive granite hand—fingers like cathedral pillars—pushes through concrete. The hand opens, palm up, revealing ancient glyphs glowing faint blue. Maya’s own graffiti tag on the tunnel wall begins to glow in sync. She whispers, "You’re awake." The colossus answers with a seismic sigh that cracks the ceiling.
Why now
In an era of autonomous weapons, climate upheaval, and debates over who protects whom, a story about a primordial guardian choosing mercy over might lands like prophecy—exactly the cathartic spectacle audiences crave right now.
