Synopsis

When the first cicada drone signals full summer in sleepy Shonan, Tokyo transplant Haru stumbles upon an abandoned shrine where fireflies glow in impossible colors. Each flash unlocks fragments of other people's summers—first kisses, betrayals, goodbyes—pulling him into the orbit of local girl Miko, who has been collecting the lights to rewrite her own erased past. Their days blur into neon festivals, midnight swims, and rooftop confessions as the insects multiply, threatening to erase the present. Friends and rivals orbit them: the charismatic lifeguard hiding a family secret, the childhood friend turned rival, and the eccentric shrine keeper who warns that summer always demands a price. As the final equinox approaches, Haru and Miko must decide whether to let the lights consume their memories or fight to keep one perfect season alive, even if it means saying goodbye forever.

EXT. SHONAN BEACH - DAWN

The horizon blazes orange. HARU (18), camera around his neck, stands alone in wet sand as the first cicada scream rips the air.

HARU
(whispering)
Finally.

A single FIREFLY drifts past his lens, glowing electric blue. He follows it up the dunes toward an overgrown shrine half-buried in morning glory.

Inside, dozens of the insects pulse in sync. One lands on his palm. The world flickers—sudden images of Miko laughing on the same beach years ago. Haru gasps. The firefly lifts off, leaving only the roar of waves and the taste of salt.

MIKO (O.S.)
They only appear when summer is truly here.

He turns. MIKO (17), school uniform damp, watches from the torii gate, eyes bright with warning and invitation.
