Synopsis
Kai Makoa, once the world's greatest surfer, washes up broken after a wipeout that killed his best friend. When a mysterious barrel wave appears off a forbidden Hawaiian island, he assembles a ragtag crew to ride it before a ruthless energy company destroys the reef. Each ride reveals visions of ancient guardians warning that the wave exacts a terrible price. As storms rage and betrayals mount, Kai must decide whether glory or sacrifice defines a true legend. The final swell becomes a battle between personal demons and the living sea itself.
The story
Kai hits rock bottom in a mainland dive bar until a viral clip of the impossible wave lures him back to Hawaii. He recruits his estranged sister and two wildcard locals.
The crew battles corporate goons, hallucinatory wipeouts, and each other as the wave reveals its sentient power and demands blood sacrifices.
Kai paddles out alone for the ultimate ride, merges with the ocean spirit, and wipes out the drilling rig in a cataclysmic finale that restores balance.
