Synopsis
In a rain-soaked Showa-filtered Edo, sly catlike constable Neko Hachi tracks a mystical revolver called the Ma Kaiju that compels killers to confess before it devours their souls. When the weapon surfaces during a high-profile merchant slaying, Hachi teams with a haunted geisha and a rogue samurai to stop a vengeful ghost from rewriting history with its bullets. INT. RAIN-SOAKED EDO ALLEY - NIGHT Neon Showa signs flicker over wooden storefronts. NEKO HACHI, lean and sharp-eyed in a patched haori, crouches over a merchant's corpse. Blood pools around a gleaming revolver still smoking in the dead man's grip. NEKO HACHI (whispering) This one talks back, neko...? The gun pulses. A ghostly WHISPER echoes: "Confess..." Hachi's hand twitches toward it. Thunder cracks. A shadow detaches from the wall— a blade flashes. Hachi rolls, draws his short sword, and grins like a cat with cream. NEKO HACHI Nine lives left, ghost. Try again.
Why now
In an age of public reckonings and weaponized guilt, this retro-tinged tale of forced confession and personal demons offers cathartic spectacle while tapping nostalgia for mythic justice and questioning how far we go to silence our pasts.
