INT. UCLA FILM ARCHIVE - NIGHT

LENA VOSS, 28, pale and wired on espresso, hunches over a Steenbeck. Black-and-white footage flickers: VICTOR KANE, 1947, lights a cigarette in perfect profile. His smile could stop traffic.

LENA (whispering)
You’re still in there.

She freezes the frame on his eyes. They seem to look back. The projector stutters. Static fills the screen, then Victor’s voice leaks through the speakers, impossibly clear.

VICTOR (O.S.)
Hello, darling.

Lena yanks the headphones off. The room is empty. On the monitor, Victor’s image now stares directly into the lens, cigarette burning forever.

EXT. ARCHIVE PARKING LOT - MOMENTS LATER

Lena runs to her car. In the rearview, Victor’s face appears in the backseat for one frame. She spins around. Nothing. Her phone lights up: UNKNOWN NUMBER.

VICTOR (V.O.)
I’ve been waiting for someone like you.
