Glitch Ride
A coder's glitched avatar must hijack a self-driving rig through a collapsing simulation before her code deletes her for good.
A coder's glitched avatar must hijack a self-driving rig through a collapsing simulation before her code deletes her for good.
Synopsis
In a near-future metropolis where everyone lives inside a corporate simulation, ride-share driver Lena Vale wakes to find her digital skin pixelating and her clothes vanishing mid-shift. A rogue patch turns her routine pickup into a lethal chase as the system’s enforcers hunt the glitch threatening total collapse. With reality fracturing around her, Lena races toward the only exit node before her existence is patched out forever. Teaming with a sarcastic passenger who claims he’s an exiled dev, Lena dodges looping traffic, melting skyscrapers, and weaponized advertisements that rewrite themselves on the fly. Each mile strips away another layer of the sim, revealing the city was never real and neither was she. The deeper they drive, the more her memories glitch, forcing her to question whether escaping means survival or erasure. As the simulation’s core begins its final rollback, Lena must decide if she’ll delete the passenger to reach the exit or risk permanent deletion together, turning a simple car ride into a desperate bid for a life that was never coded to last.
The story
Lena’s shift starts normal until clothing and car glitch during a pickup, triggering a system alert that marks her for immediate deletion. She flees into the neon grid as enforcers materialize. A mysterious passenger jumps in claiming he can guide her out.
Reality unravels with looping streets, weaponized ads, and memory wipes while the passenger’s true identity as a rogue coder emerges. Chases escalate through melting freeways and boss-level traffic as Lena learns she’s the virus the system fears most.
At the final node Lena chooses to save the passenger instead of sacrificing him, triggering a cascade that rewrites the sim’s endgame. They crash through the exit into an unknown real world just as the entire simulation blacks out.

Cold open
EXT. NEON GRID HIGHWAY - NIGHT Rain falls in perfect digital droplets. LENA VALE, 28, slides behind the wheel of a sleek autonomous rig. Her jacket pixelates, fabric disappearing at the seams. LENA Not now. Come on— The seatbelt glitches through her torso. Her shirt flickers to bare skin then snaps back. She guns the engine anyway. Suddenly the rear-view fills with black SUVs materializing from thin air. A voice booms from the dash. SYSTEM VOICE Anomaly detected. Purge protocol initiated. Lena yanks the wheel as the road ahead fractures into code. A passenger door flies open; KAI VOSS, 35, jumps in without asking. KAI Drive. Or we both get patched out.
Why now
In a post-pandemic world obsessed with virtual escape, deepfakes, and AI companions, Glitch Ride taps the collective paranoia that our digital lives could delete us at any moment, delivering visceral thrills while asking whether freedom is worth the fall.
