Synopsis

Marcus Hale ruled Manhattan finance until a single bad bet shattered his empire and triggered an inexplicable curse: every unpaid obligation makes him lighter, his body rising inches each day. As his feet leave the ground, he confronts the wreckage of broken promises, a fractured family, and a city that cheered his fall. Desperate, Marcus hunts down the people he crushed—former partners, a loyal assistant he betrayed, and the blue-collar father whose life he ruined—seeking forgiveness and the massive cash infusions that could anchor him. But the higher he floats, the clearer the moral arithmetic becomes, forcing brutal choices between self-preservation and genuine restitution. In a final, gravity-defying confrontation atop a skyscraper, Marcus must decide whether to cling to what little remains or release everything for one shot at redemption, knowing one day too late means eternal ascent into nothingness.

Cold open

INT. HALE PENTHOUSE - DAWN

Sunlight slices across a 60th-floor bedroom. MARCUS HALE, 48, shirtless and sweat-slicked, stares at his bare feet. They hover a full inch above the Italian marble. He drops an inch lower, then rises again with each shallow breath.

MARCUS
Elena? You seeing this?

No answer. He steps toward the hallway, toes scraping marble then lifting free. A child’s soccer trophy on the dresser begins to slide toward him, magnetized by his unnatural lightness.

MARCUS (CONT'D)
(into phone)
I need the jet. Now. Tell the board we’re liquidating everything. Everything.

He hangs up. In the mirror, his reflection already looks smaller, as if the room itself is pulling away.

Why now

In an era of record personal debt, gig-economy precarity, and public reckonings with toxic success, this story weaponizes the literal physics of owing to expose how late-stage capitalism turns men into ghosts before they ever hit the ground.
