Synopsis

In a world where villains exist only on reel, legendary baddie Koolar detonates free from a forgotten VHS master. He stalks his alcoholic screenwriter creator across neon-lit LA soundstages, leaving a trail of explosive set-piece carnage that rewrites classic scenes in real time. As studio execs scramble to contain the outbreak, the line between script and reality dissolves, forcing both men to decide if a cool villain deserves a second act or a final cut. Koolar’s rampage drags in a plucky young director and a fading action star who once voiced him, igniting a city-wide chase that weaponizes movie magic against its own maker. When the villain offers the writer one last perfect ending, the price is erasing every trace of his own existence.

The story

Act I

Struggling screenwriter Max discovers his old villain Koolar has manifested from a lost print; Koolar’s first kills on the studio lot prove he’s no longer bound by celluloid rules.

Act II

Koolar forces Max through recreated scenes from their original film while evading corporate hit squads trying to delete him; an uneasy alliance forms with a young director and the actor who played Koolar’s rival.

Act III

Max must choose between sacrificing Koolar for a blockbuster franchise or letting the villain direct his own finale, ending in a rain-soaked rooftop showdown that literally burns the final reel.

Cold open

INT. ABANDONED 35MM VAULT - NIGHT
Dust motes swirl under a single work light. MAX HARLAN, 48, unshaven, pops open a rusted film can labeled "COOLER: FINAL CUT - 1997." He threads the reel onto a groaning projector. As the countdown leader ticks, the celluloid crackles and a LOW, MECHANICAL VOICE leaks from the speakers.
KOOLAR (O.S.)
You gave me one scene to be cool... now I want the whole reel.
The projector EXPLODES in white light. A silhouette of spiked armor steps out of the beam, boots hitting real concrete with a cinematic THUD. Koolar’s glowing eyes lock on Max. The vault reels begin to MELT behind him.
MAX
You were never supposed to exist outside the credits.
KOOLAR
Neither were you.

Why now

Streaming has turned every forgotten straight-to-video villain into a cult icon, yet audiences crave tangible, big-screen spectacle; this story weaponizes that exact hunger, promising the tactile thrill of 90s practical effects colliding with today’s meta-blockbuster appetite for legacy characters demanding their due.
